open pdf / launch pdf viewer

Hello

When I click on a link that points to a pdf-file an empty window is opened and nothing happens. I can download the file, save it and open it from the terminal but that is rather cumbersome. Is there a way / Which is the way to make luakit launch my favorite pdf viewer and open the file in it when I follow a pdf-link?

(I'm pretty new to luakit and not sure whether this is the right place to ask my question. I apologize if it is not and would appreciate a hint at the right place.)

I have looked at the patch but I don't know what I am supposed to do with it :-( Can you help me with a more verbose instruction? Thanks.
